National Libraries Day – Saturday 7 February 2015!

Love Libraries? Show it

National Libraries Day will hit Britain on Saturday 7 February 2015, with the message that we love our library and information services and the professionals behind them.

With an emphasis on fun and creating a buzz around libraries of all description, Saturday 7 February will round off a week of special celebrations held in local, public, academic and workplace libraries up and down the country. It is a chance for people to organise a local event or visit their library and interact with the vital work carried out by their library and information professionals, reminding decision-makers that our libraries and librarians are valued.

The National Libraries Day campaign is designed to say a national thank-you for the unique contribution made by library and information professionals and their institutions to personal and professional prosperity; from sparking a lifelong love of books and reading, to accelerating literacy and learning and connecting workers with the different kinds of information they need in their workplace; providing a home for social relationships and inclusiveness and a safe place for any member of the community to gain help and essential access to information and the internet.

For National Libraries Day 2014, thousands of people took part in over 600 events in libraries across the country, including author visits and performances, with highlights from a mad hatter’s tea party in Chester, to a 1940s dance in Bournemouth, to a Harry Potter themed event in London and stories and songs in Glasgow. The first National Libraries Day ambassador, author Lesley Pearce, appeared on BBC Breakfast TV to talk about the campaign.

Join in by visiting http://www.nationallibrariesday.org.uk/, organising an event, contributing to our forums, following @NatLibrariesDay on twitter, tweeting with the #NLD15 hashtag and visiting your local Library.
