Deborah Cairns – Systems Librarian
Hello, my name is Debs. I’m the Systems Librarian. I work at the Nuneaton and South Leicester campuses. My other jobs include looking after ClickView (our digital video streaming service) and contributing to the library’s user education programme.
Outside of work – Most of my time is spent managing my shoe collection.
My main role is Acquisitions and Stock Management. I purchase all stock for library sites, plus I’m responsible for cataloguing e-Books, as well as supervising the cataloguing team.
Outside of work – I love going to gigs, all kinds of movies, music, literature and travel.
My main role is preparing new library books for the shelves. I also manage the magazine collection at the Nuneaton campus. At work, I especially enjoy my counter duties and interacting with our customers.
Outside of work – I enjoy cruising and visiting different foreign locations for my annual holiday and enjoy entertaining family and friends with Italian cooking and a few glasses of wine…
From February 2012 – Feb 2014 I was the Library Apprentice. I became a Learning Resources Assistant in February 2014.
I work at both the Nuneaton and Hinckley campuses. I create the content for our plasma screen and social media accounts, promoting Library stock, services and events.
I work on the counter assisting our customers with enquiries. I also process new stock getting it ready to go out on the shelves. I love helping people find what they need.
Outside of work – I volunteer for my local hospital radio station called Castle Mead Radio in Hinckley. I’m a huge fan of classic era films(especially Noir films) and I absolutely love reading.
The main part of my job is to serve and help people. I particularly enjoy helping with enquiries and helping people find the resources they need.My job is to deal with overdues and invoices. I create most of the displays and notice boards in the Library.
Outside of work – I love travelling to different countries, cooking and trying different recipes, entertaining the family, gardening and trying different craft activities. I always have something on the go because I don’t like to be bored!!!
I work at both the Nuneaton and Hinckley campuses and enjoy meeting the different learners at these sites. I work on the counter assisting with locating resources and ad hoc computer queries. I also manage the equipment we loan out to students and staff such as laptops and iPads.
Outside of work – My main love is gardening – I obsessively collect plants that I no longer have room for! I also enjoy creative embroidery usually having some sewing project taking up space on my dining room table or in my head.
I am part of the Learning Resources team and mainly work evening shifts on the Nuneaton campus. My background is in publishing and design (I am a registered sessional lecturer) so several of my responsibilities involve creating displays, posters and signage around the Library. I also really enjoy resourcing and researching and ultimately get the biggest buzz knowing I’ve helped somebody acquire knowledge they previously didn’t have.
Outside of work – I am a Nuneaton Town season ticket holder and am actively involved with the Heritage history project ‘From Town to Town’. I enjoy keeping fit by hiking and playing five-a-side football. I also play the Guitar and Bass, love watching sport, have useless amounts of music/film trivia, and have a deep fascination for the ‘60’s space race!
